In order to gain more ideas of the users of the Buikslotermeerplein, an ideas festival, was organised during the weekly market.

The festival had music, playground, guided tours and good food and during the festival, State of Flux interviewed people on the market. Furthermore, sketch artists visualised the best ideas that helped to make, in short, Buikslotermeerplein a more attractive place to visit or stay. The focus was on gathering ideas for the five specific locations: the market, the parking area, the subway and the entrances to the Wieden and to Breedveld. At the end of the day, the team had gathered more than 100 ideas.

Some red lines appeared from these ideas such as: green elements, food and drinks stands (a neighbourhood barbeque), seating areas, play and sport elements, diverse market (regional products) and an overall wish for a better maintained area. These ideas will give the first draft of the program strategy, created with a core group of twenty stakeholders, more focus.

The goal of the Buikslotermeerplein program strategy is to enhance the residence quality of the public space and attract users to the area for the coming three years, this by use of (temporary) programming of the public space in a strategic way.
